The One Who Leads To Good Is Like The One Who Does It

Abu Mas`ud `Uqbah bin `Amr Al-Ansari Al-Badri (RA) reported: Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said, “Whoever guides someone to virtue will be rewarded equivalent to him who practices that good action.” [Sahih Muslim]

Commentary:

The statement quoted in this Hadith was made by the Prophet (SAWS) when, on a certain occasion, someone requested him to give an animal for riding. The Prophet (SAWS) replied that he did not have any. A man who was present there said that he could show him the man who could help him in the matter. This is how the Prophet (SAWS) revealed the reward of directing people to good deeds, which is mentioned in this Hadith.  [Riyad as-Saliheen, Book of Miscellany, Chapter 20, Hadith 173]

Variant hadiths:

Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari said, “A man came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, ‘My camel has become exhausted, so give me a mount.’ He replied, ‘I do not have any. But go to so-and-so and perhaps he will give you one.’ He went to that man and he gave him a mount. Then he went back to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and told him. He said, ‘Whoever guides to good has the like of the reward of the person who actually does it.'”  [Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 242, graded Sahih by al-Albani]

Abu Mas’ud Al-Badri narrated that a man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) looking for a mount, he said: ‘Mine has been ruined.’ So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Go to so-and-so.’ So he went to him and he gave him a mount. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever leads to good, then for him is the same reward as the one who does it – or – who acts upon it.'”  [Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2671, graded Sahih by Darussalam]
Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH), said, “Anyone who calls people to guidance has the same reward as that received by those who follow it, without that decreasing their reward in any way. Anyone who calls people to misguidance is attributed with wrong actions the same as those who follow it, without that decreasing their wrong actions in any way.”  [Sahih Muslim]
